Yogita's Song: Turning a Life Story Into Music

Hey beautiful souls,

I've got something really special to share with you today. You're the first to hear "Yogita's Song" and see the video before anyone else. This song holds a deep place in my heart, and I wanted to make sure you got to experience it first.

Working on this project was one of the most profound and moving experiences of my career as a songwriter and producer. When Mohan Rangarao shared his story with me, I was struck by the depth of his vulnerability and the tragic beauty of his family's journey. His memoir, Myopia, is a raw and intimate account of love, loss, and spiritual awakening, and I felt deeply honored to be entrusted with translating such a personal narrative into music.

The process of crafting a song that could capture the essence of Yogita's life, Mohan's grief, and the family's resilience was both challenging and deeply rewarding. It reminded me of how powerfully music can connect us to emotions and experiences that words alone can't fully express.

Collaborating with Mohan was a truly inspiring experience. We spent time discussing the themes, tone, and instrumentation that would best honor Yogita's memory and reflect the cultural and emotional layers of the story. We landed on a blend of Americana and late 70s folk/country, infused with Eastern elements to reflect the family's Indian heritage. Bringing together a team of talented musicians to record the song was pure magic—each artist brought their own unique voice, creating a soundscape that felt both universal and deeply personal.

We recorded at The Cabin at the Vineyards at Chappel Lodge—a peaceful and beautiful spot that felt just right for capturing the heart of the song. Huge thanks to Krista for letting us transform the cabin into a recording studio for the day. The studio footage was filmed by Tucker Livingston, and the video was beautifully edited and produced by Javiera Corea.
