Another Mother: Creativity, Motherhood + Growing Up in Music

We've grown up in this business together. Different paths, same river.
I was a guest on Suzanna Choffel's podcast Another Mother and it was really fun!
She's one of my oldest soul sisters in music. We've grown up in this business together. Different paths, same river. Getting to be part of her new creative offering feels like watching a friend stretch into another octave of herself. I love how she keeps growing. I love her so much.
We laughed a lot. Dropped a few F bombs. It was so fun!
We talked about how seriously we used to take ourselves. The "shoulds" of the business. The pressure to perform not just on stage but as a persona. The constant hum of comparison and hype that overwhelms you in the biz, especially when you're younger.
There's something wildly liberating about not being tempted by that anymore. Or maybe just not having the time to spiral in your head about it. Raising kids will do that. So will building real things that require your actual attention. There's less bandwidth for bullshit. Which turns out to be a gift.
We talked about songwriting too — how after all these years the muscles are there. They hold you. You don't panic if you only have a sliver of time. You sit down, and the work knows what to do. That's a relief. It's like your creative body trusts you now.
