I'm building my next body of work, BANNED, from songs inspired by banned and challenged books.
The project began with questions about who gets to tell stories, whose voices are protected or suppressed, and what literature can teach us about resistance, memory, power, tenderness and courage.
The plan is to build it song by song. After nine albums, I'm still fascinated by what music can do that an argument can't: move an idea out of abstraction and into the body.
The first song from the project is "Nightingale."
